Sir Wilson Whineray
On Tuesday 23 October 2012, Sir Wilson Whineray died
at the age of 77 with his family by his side him.
Sir Wilson Whineray was a prop for the All Blacks
and played 77 tests from 1957-1965. He became the captain of the team in 1958.
Sir Wilson was a great man that cared about everybody
around him and he was a great businessman. He was also an inspirational leader.
I play rugby for the Grammar Junior Rugby Club. Every year Sir Wilson would come to my
rugby clubs Prize giving. He was the patron of our Club. People describe him as a perfect
gentlemen which is probably why his biography was titled that.

The highist free fall parachute jumper ever
Longest
space dive ever
Monday 15 October 2012
Today Austrian Felix Baumgartner broke the speed of sound in his jump
from the edge of space. But he did not set the world record for the longest
free fall. He managed to get up to a speed of 1,342 kilometers per hour during
the 4 minutes 19 seconds free fall.
Mission control said that it was a near perfect jump from the capsule. He
ended up jumping 39,044 meters. They were supposed to jump 36,576 meters but
they jumped 8,624 kilometers over what they should have jumped. They took almost
two hours to get up to the place where he was going to jump from. Baumgarter
had already broken a world record before he jumped. The world record was for
the highest balloon jump ever. The person he passed jumped 113,740 in 1961.
The launch of the jump coincided with the 65th
Anniversary of the American pilot Chuck Yeager who broke the speed of sound.
